First, if I ever ...So I finally finished the video. First, if I ever get my MSN, I want to go to UCSF because it is one of the top nursing schools in the country. Anyway, this video was a good overview of why consumption of excessive amounts of HFCS and sucrose is a bad idea.

I've often told people that the foods to stay away from are the ones in the middle aisles of the grocery store because they all contain high amounts of these substances as well as trans fats. I'm not a huge fan of the argument that all fructose is bad because there is plenty of evidence to support that fruit which has naturally occurring fructose is good for you. However, he seems to address that in his talk by saying that fruit is created with the antidote.

The bit about who drinks Gatorade made me laugh. As a triathlete, Gatorade was one of my favorite sports drinks with the most research backing it for athletic performance. I preferred drinks and carbohydrate replacements with a lot of glucose and some HFCS because I last longer and performed better. I drank it for bouts of exercise 2 hours or longer. However, my brother (a young teenager at the time) would drink about 6-10 Gatorades a day and it was detrimental to his health. That is who it is really marketed for.

Overall a great video about the excessive production of foods with HFCS and sucrose. Not all calories are created equal and this is a good example of that.
